“Desert Rider”

2023

Acrylic on Panel

47 x 48”

This is my sister, Maja (pronounced Maya), on her Harley Davidson, amongst the mountains in Utah. She’s a talented artist, climber, and rider. She approaches life with love and fierceness. I hoped to capture a glimpse of that in this mural.

Here is the mural hanging in Missoula, MT. It is part of an exhibition by Allez! Missoula, and will be hanging up until October 2023. You can find it in downtown Missoula, at 120 N. Higgins Avenue, across from the Catalyst Cafe.

Details! Where’s Waldo hanging on the back

Another view from the street, hanging next to pieces by talented local artists LadyPajama and Claudia Roulier

One of my recent murals started with seeing an ad from the Chewelah Arts Guild at the post office, looking for submissions to create murals in town. Pictured above is the completed mural 10 x 20 ft. Below is my small scale mural design submission 2 x 4 ft.

After being selected, I got my paints and materials together and planned the mural. My friends at Quartzite Brewing lent me a ladder and I got to work, painting consecutive weekends to complete the mural. See the progression below.

Pictured above is roughly halfway progress. Below is the completed mural (afternoon lighting, which adds more shadow from the uneven siding boards.

Details for elk, rider, and skiier.

Detail of the rider. The face was referenced from a photograph of a Nez Perce native, the horse from another photograph.

No, that’s not my face on the skiier. It’s my mom, who taught me how to ski.

Pictured below is a 4 x 6 ft mural I made in a hostel in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica, 2017.
